Important Discussions: Top 10 Christmas Songs

Being that this is the last Sunday of the Holiday season (and 2020… wow), I’ve decided to stick with the holiday theme and have our first important discussion. Two partridges one stone. I apologize, that was corny. But Christmas music is easily a top three best component of Christmas and it’s also probably my favorite genre of music to sing along to.

I had to throw this one in here because this is the first entry, and who doesn’t like Christmas music? That’s kiiiinda the point of this blog thing, to include everyone. But on some real real I pray everyone is having a happy holiday season, and hopefully this can make it a little better.

Our important discussion today will be (drum roll)… Top Ten Christmas Songs! Of course, if you read the title you already knew that, but shut up. That being said, without further ado, let’s get active.

Honorable Mention. “Last Christmas” – Wham!

10. “The Christmas Song” – Nat King Cole

Everyone knows this song, and this is the ORIGINAL. Often imitated, never duplic- ok lemme stop lying, because there are some really good recreations of this song… Might even see one later in the list :).

But King Cole (even though Jermaine Cole is the real King Cole) blessed us with a super silky smoove holiday classic. Makes me wanna bundle in front of a fireplace and drink some hot chocolate.

Also this music video that they made for him is really cool, and it’s great to see the OGs getting some modern day love. This song debuted in 1960.

9. “Baby It’s Cold Outside” – John Legend featuring Kelly Clarkson

If you ain’t know, John Legend can SING. That’s really the main reason it’s on here (Kelly did her thing too tho). It also made the list because I think it’s ironic. The lyrics are changed a lot and it almost sounds like he’s trying to get her out of there, rather than to keep her there like how the song usually goes (maybe Chrissy was bouta get home, oop).

8. Pretty Much Any Pentatonix Christmas Song

Seriously. If you like A capella music you can’t really go wrong with any of them (fun fact I briefly sang in an A capella group in high school) (videos potentially to come in the future). They just don’t miss ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. They also have head*$$ (but admittedly good) music videos for some them too, full package!

7. “All I want for Christmas is You” – Mariah Carey

I mean… duh.

6. “White Christmas” – The Drifters

This song has been covered many a time but none of the versions do it for me quite like this one. I already said Christmas songs are the best songs to sing and this song lets me pop off the RANGE.

5. “Someday at Christmas” – Stevie Wonder

STOP PLAYIN WIT MY BOY STEVIE. He killed this, and not only is it a bop, but if you listen to the lyrics it’s super powerful as well. He covers topics such as war and social injustice, really prevalent stuff in 1967 AND today.

4. “The 12 Days of Christmas” – Straight No Chaser

I already said I love A capella, and my love for it grows even stronger during Christmas. It just seems appropriate with caroling and all. But this song is a super creative roller coaster, and if you like A capella there’s no way you don’t like this. I think the video below of freshman year Paris should be able to display how I feel about it (again, showing off the RANGE). If you don’t watch any of the other music videos, watch this one, it’s pretty entertaining. Make sure you watch it before you watch the one of me, it’ll provide context. Also, I apologize for this gigantic space below (if anyone is nice with coding and wants to help that’d be great).

Stop playin wit me

3. “This Christmas” – Chris Brown

Classic. I be singin this song I’m Chris. Not much to really say about it besides he just straight up murders it.

2. “The Christmas Song ” – Justin Bieber featuring Usher

They was singin singin in this one. I told y’all this song would make a second appearance and for it to be in here twice, you know it’s good. The combination of JB and Usher flexing their best singing voices is just too overpowered. AND there’s a guitar solo…

This song could’ve easily been #1.

Sorry for this huge space :/

1. “Mistletoe” – Justin Bieber

ANYONE WHO HAS A PROBLEM WITH JB TAKING THE TOP TWO SPOTS CAN @ ME I’M READY FOR THE DEBATE. MISTLETOE IS A GENERATIONAL CLASSIC AND TO THINK THAT HE WAS 16/17 WHEN HE MADE THIS ORIGINAL SONG IS CRAZY.  LISTEN TO THE MUSIC BEFORE YOU HATE BECAUSE JB DID THAT. Speaking unbiasedly, this probably isn’t the best song on the list, but it’s MY top 10.

But yeah… I hope you enjoyed this little holiday special. With all the craziness in our world today you gotta make sure you take the time to appreciate the good things in life, like Christmas music. As you know I want this platform to be interactive, so comment your favorite Christmas songs below (don’t be afraid to be the first person to comment) and/or leave some feedback about the article in the feedback box.

P.S.

Also, I apologize for the super large spaces on the media content, I’m trying to work that out.

Happy Holidays everyone, hopefully I’ll see you all next week 🙂
